Guess Who is 21?! (Two months late…)
On February 24, I turned 21 years old! Where in the world did the time go? I still remember storming out of my sister’s room the night of my prom because I didn’t think she was doing my hair right. I honestly probably should’ve let her just do it…lol.
This year, I spent my 21st birthday in a city I love and surrounded by people I loved even more. It was something I will never forget! I got to pick out my competition wardrobe for Miss Pennsylvania at the Jovani Showroom and watch two Broadway shows with my mom and best friend. Making memories with my mom is probably my favorite thing in this world. She is truly my best friend. Thanks for always being there for me mom.
I am finishing up my third year of college and have been so grateful to have experienced so many different things in life. I have been blessed to have found Christ, travel abroad, and even learn another language. Well…almost. I have loved, I have cried, I have laughed, I have loss, and I have learned so much about my strength as a young women. These 21 years have taught me the power of resilience, kindness, perseverance, but most importantly, forgiveness.
Today I am going to share some of those lessons I have learned! Now, I am not going to go in explaining each and every one of these things because I think there is a lot of beauty in finding how it relates to you and your own life. And honestly, it just might not relate at all. However, I hope that it gives you some comfort in realizing that life is one big beautiful journey that is filled with memories, laughter, and God’s grace. So let’s hop right in!
The Lessons
- It is okay to cry and not do anything for a day, but always remember to pick yourself back up for the next one.
- Always be kind to people even if you’re the only one doing it.
- Admit when you are wrong, but stand up for your right.
- To forgive others, you must first forgive yourself.
- Don’t ever forget how far you have come and look for beauty that lies in the future.
- You don’t need him to tell you that you are ___________to feel _________. (Fill in with whatever word you feel necessary.)
- Being alone doesn’t mean that you are lonely. You’re a lot less lonely than you think.
- Closed mouths don’t get fed. Work hard, ask for help, seize the day!
- Those who love hard tend to hurt hard. Be prepared, but never think of love as a flaw or mistake. It’s your super power.
- Guard your heart but give with all of it.
- Take joy in the small things. Watch the snow fall and listen to the rain dance on your window.
- Find something that makes you unapologetically happy. Do it as often as you can.
- Turn on music in your room, open the curtains to let the sun in, and sing really loudly in the morning.
- Tell yourself you are proud of yourself.
- Work hard and stay focused but don’t loose sight of what is really important. Call your family.
- Stop trying to be like everybody else. God made you for a reason. Make a choice to learn who that person really is.
- Read and never stop. Knowledge is power.
- You can change the world. Never stop believing in the good in people.
- Believe that you can be and do something different with your life.
- Even when you’re mad, sad, or embarrassed, pray and trust in your God. He will get you through.
- Everything is going to be okay. I promise. Be still because this too shall pass.
The Take Away
Proverbs 3:5 says…
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding”
Hold on to that. Try not to worry so much on the things you can’t control and try focusing on the beauty of the little things around you. Write, paint, dance, sing, but most importantly, love the life that you have been given because waking up each morning is a privilege in itself. It means you still have work left to do on this Earth and nobody can do that work but you!
