My most asked question in my DMs on a Saturday morning (as long as it is not game day of course) is, “Omg, what coffee shop is that? It is so cute!”
The coffee shops in Pittsburgh will forever be one of my most favorite parts of this city. There is just something about them that covers my heart in a blanket of peace and gives me a sense of calmness that I often sometimes will go out of my way to avoid. I guess it is because my mind has been trained to think that I should always be doing something. The sweet humming harmonies of two jazz singers singing in the background of muffled whispered voices from a nearby couple in their mid-twenties leaning in close so they don’t miss a word, trying not to get caught looking over at a medical student’s elaborate and colorful drawings of some muscle I thought I knew on their iPad pro, and the steam’s dance from a fresh cup of hot chocolate next to a brand new devotional on a Saturday morning just soothes my soul.
I know, so cliché, right?
But you see, the fact that coffee shops are so “cliché” makes me like them most. Coffee shops are simple and sometimes it is the simple things in our life that we often times overlook. Yet in doing that, we neglect to realize that it is that simplicity that gives us the most peace and bring us the most happiness.
It can be so easy to get caught up doing a million things or trying to be the best at everything in a particular moment in your life, but when was the last time you just sat in a coffee shop and read that book you have been eyeing, studied a language, started a new devotional, or just sat there in your own peace?
Well, lucky for you, if you live in Pittsburgh, here are some of the coffee shops that I have been to (and loved) since I have been moved here three years ago.
PLACES I HAVE TRIED:
Big Dog Coffee – Southside | 2717 Sarah Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203
I recently started meeting up with a couple of girls from my church once a week, and they introduced me to this sweet little coffee shop a couple of weeks ago. I honestly have been going non-stop ever since! Everything about this place is so cute, but my favorite part would have to be their outside patio. It is full of beautiful plants and greenery and I love coming here in the mornings on a weekday or weekend to get some fresh air and some work done.
My Typical Drink Order: Hot Chocolate or Peppermint Tea
Cafe d’Amore – Lawrenceville | 5400 Butler St, Pittsburgh, PA 15201
I actually first went to this coffee shop for a blog photoshoot. This coffee shop seems to be a hit with those who live around Lawrenceville and I totally understand why! It is small and decorated beautifully. Plus, they have a very wide variety of hot and cold drinks. It is not too big, but quiet with some of the best coffee shop vibes. Also, the baristas that work here are honestly so nice!
My Typical Drink Order: Hot Chocolate
The Coffee Tree Roasters – Bakery Square
Bakery Square, 151 Bakery Square Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15206
Bakery Square is one of my favorite little neighborhoods of Pittsburgh. Yes, this area is quite expensive, but they have such great places to study such as The Coffee Tree Roasters! There are a lot of windows and they have outdoor and indoor seating. Bakery Square is one of my favorite places to visit when finals season arises because it is never as crowded, but still offers a comfortable, quiet place to study!
My Typical Drink Order: White Mocha
Adda Coffee – East Liberty | 200 S Highland Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15206
Adda Coffee was one of the first coffee shops I discovered in Pittsburgh! It is near East Liberty and because of its bright Tiffany blue paint on the building, you really can’t miss it. This space is actually kind of small, but I loveeee their menu. Once I went and they even had empanadas! There are big tables to do work at, bar-like tables under their big windows facing the street, and even comfortable benches under the windows in the back if you just want to read. It does get really busy on the weekends, nevertheless, it is probably still one of my favorite places to study.
My Typical Drink Order: Hot Chocolate

RedHawk Coffee | 120 Meyran Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213
