Is it really March already? While I was scrolling through my Instagram feed, I came across a fellow blogger who shared her mood for this March! (Follow her blog here: www.lolaadewuya.com) My girl Lola’s #MarchMood is growth and fruition. I was so inspired, I decided to come up with my own theme. After sitting in my bed while listening to classical music, I couldn’t help but have two words pop into my head: simplicity and gratefulness.
Simplicity
Definition: The quality or condition of being plain or uncomplicated in form or design (Oxford Dictionary)
The past couple of weeks have been quite overwhelming. Often times when we find ourselves in situations where we feel like we have 1 million things to do at the same time, we fall into the trap of making things more difficult than they should and in turn, miss the beauty in the simple things around us. Saturday, I was able to visit some girls part of a program called Girls Hope. The stories they told me really warmed my heart because they found so much joy in the simple things surrounding them. I hope to dedicate this March to appreciating the small things in life. Every time I drive home from school, I intentionally make myself look into the sky, mountains, and nature’s beauty. I do this to remind myself of God’s beauty even in such simple things such as a mountain defrosting from the snowfall from the night before. From the laughter of a friend to the interrupting of the chilling Pittsburgh wind by the sun kissing my cheek, this March is all about the little things in life that I have too often failed to acknowledge.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” Matthew 6:25-27
Gratefulness
Definition: Feeling or showing an appreciation for something done or received. (Oxford Dictionary)
This March I will also be celebrating gratefulness. It is easy to forget where you came from when everything is going well. It is even easier to forget to thank the people along the way that have sacrificed even the slightest bit of energy to help you get to where you are now–content, peaceful, and without worry. Not to say that it is done purposefully, but we must admit it sometimes happens. I want to start being more intentional with my heart. Instead of assuming that others understand grateful, I want them to feel it. There is this thing in writing called “show don’t tell.” If you have taken any writing class in your life, you have probably heard the phrase. However, one evening when I was eating dinner with another student in my class, we were discussing how sometimes the “telling” is actually needed. I think that relationships, whether it be with God, a mother, a friend, or even nature, need the element of gratefulness in them to be ultimately successful. I even think that applies to the relationship you have with yourself.
“Be filled with the Spirit; speaking one to another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father.” -Ephesians 5:18-20
I am super excited that my Spring Break has started and I can actually start working on these two things now! I hope I have inspired you to think of your own March #mood! Stay blessed, brilliant, and beautiful and thank you for being part of my journey.
