On Tuesday, May 3rd, Beyoncé…oh wait I am sorry…THE Beyoncé (also known as Queen B, Sasha Fierce, Bey, and Yoncé) performed The Formation World Tour in North Carolina. Fortunately I was able to attend and let me tell you, other than the rainy weather present, she slayyyed.
The Opening Artist:
Opening for The Formation World Tour was the one and only DJ Khaled. Although his opening was short and he came out semi on time, his performance of mixing different samples of his music as well as others did
not disappoint and quickly hyped up the crowd. Khaled definitely was a great distraction from the dark, grey clouds forming above our heads. We were even lucky enough to hear about more major keys according to the man himself. Khaled opened The Formation World Tour, as I would describe, in a very intimate way. There was not a head not bobbing, a hip not swaying, nor a hand not waving to the music that we all knew and loved that ranged from popular artist such as himself, Drake, and more.
The Wardrobe:
Man oh man. Beyonce’s wardrobe consisted of a lot of glitz and sassy colors. With each outfit that she wore, the backup dancers wore a unique, toned-down version that perfectly complimented Beyonce. Most of the outfits coordinated beautifully with the specific song she was singing. You could tell that her wardrobe crew did a lot of thinking in determining how each rhinestone and color was going to make its own statement in the piece she was
performing. Many of her outfits focused on accentuating the artist’s beautiful waist and long legs. They all fit her personality perfectly and you could tell that she felt comfortable in what she was wearing because her fierceness shined through the material.
The Music:
If for any reason you really wondering, “Can Beyonce actually really sing?” the answer is YES! This woman has a voice that just had to be handcrafted by God himself. But, Beyonce is far more than just a singer and this tour definitely proved that. Beyonce used her music to not only depict herself as a performer, but an artist and a poet. The amount of literary elements present in her songs and videos are genius! Her choice of songs that she chose to perform during the concert was performed in a way told a story itself. (Ugh, I don’t want to give away too much but know that her song choice was amazing!) From the back-up singers to the girl drummer who absolutely killed it, her music was not only technically impressive with a mixture of interesting harmonies and chord progressions, but it was relatable and just amazing. Hearing Beyonce perform live proves how blessed of an artist she is because her voice pierced through the souls of her audience and there wasn’t an individual in the entire stadium not singing right back at her.
The Aesthetics:
When you first walk into the area, it was not hard to get distracted by the shinning lights, enormous cubed screen, and stunning stage. At one point, I totally forgot that I was in a football stadium! However, the stadium really contributed to the intimate feel of the performance. From every seat in the stadium, Beyonce’s magic shinned, literally. I mean there were fireworks and sparklers at times during the show that lit up the entire stadium! I can now confidently say that The Formation World Tour was lit!
The Overall Experience:
The Formation World Tour was an experience that should not be missed. Beyonce was able to show her talents but also show a more sensitive side to her fierceness
with her constant “thank yous” to her fans and God. You could really tell how humble she is to do what she loves. This concert was fun for all ages as well. Whether you were a high school girl or a middle-aged woman coming off of work, despite the rain delay due to lightning, the experience was fun, interactive, and truly rewarding to observe. The Message:
Like any gifted artist, Beyonce made sure that a message was present in her work. Many artist make sure that the message is not only something that their audiences hear but also feel. Now I can’t exactly speak for Bey herself, however, I think one of the most important messages that I picked up on was gratitude. Her constant thank you’s and even her Lemonade album itself addresses the idea that regardless of what life gives you, we must remain grateful. Instead of crying about lemons, we instead should make lemonade and lemonade is what she made my friends. The Formation World Tour is the lemonade to her lemons.
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for theLord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40: 28-31
