It is about that time for another book review! ( I know, I have been such a bad bookworm, lately. I am working on it). Last week, I listened to Jordan Lee Dooley’s newest book called, “Own Your

My Thoughts…
So I am always really iffy on the idea of ‘self-help’ books depending on the day you catch me. Some days I am all for them while other days I will read the first couple of pages and think, “What in the world is this author talking about” or “…Here we go again.”
To be honest, when I first picked up this book at the airport, I read the first couple of lines then immediately put it back down. I don’t know what it was, but it didn’t grasp me at all.
A couple of months later, I decided to download it on
Jordan Lee Dooley uses her own experiences from her youth, college, womanhood, marriage life, and so much more to create a space where she shares some of her mistakes and lessons learned in a way that addresses some really important issues that young women often carry heavy on their hearts.
The first couple of chapters were okay to me. Nothing really stood out and I found myself listening to the book just to listen. I didn’t really connect with her until I started Chapter 7 where she talks about overcoming comparison with compassion and communication.
Jordan Lee Dooley talks about topics such as overcoming perfectionism (which hit hard for me), overcoming distraction with discipline (which also hit super hard), and so much more. Honestly, Part Two of the book was my favorite.
Overall, if you are looking for a quick read and you are a young woman between the ages of 18-25, I think this would be a great easy read and a breath of fresh air that you might need. I also think this needs to be on every college girl’s reading list because I wish I would’ve read this during my sophomore or junior year in college.
Jordan Lee Dooley also has a super cool guide to follow if you are interested in making it a group read with your gal pals! You can find that with this link here.
