Have you ever heard of the phrase “Shake what your mama gave ya?” Hahahahaha I’m sure lots of images just popped into your mind however, the more and more I thought about this silly little phrase, the more and more I thought about its relevance to my life right now. No, I’m not talking about my dance moves but rather the gifts that God (and my Mama, if you will) have given me. Am I shaking them right? Hard enough?
I am a firm believer in the idea that all people are blessed with gifts that are unique and vital to their existence. Whether that is cooking, singing, computer coding (this one is NOT mine by the way), smiling, or even making delicious cups of coffee, we all have things we ar good at regardless of the worldly value we thing it hey are worth.
Personally, I believe one of my most vital gifts is versatility of service. I have the ability and yearning to serve others in many different ways. Whether that be with my peepy, effervescent attitude or musical talents, I love to serve others with the things that I’m good at.
The more and more I dedicate myself to “shaking what my mama gave me” in terms of using my gifts effectively, I find myself a lot happier and feeling more accomplished. I feel truth and a sense of empowerment within myself. I feel like the true version of who I’m suppose to be.
I challenge you to discover what your mama gave you and shake it because you are blessed, brilliant, and beautiful. You can change the world with your gifts no matter own significant or insignificant you think they are to this world we live in. Do what you love, love what you do, and never compromise your inner true self for anyone or anything.
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:”
-1 Peter 4:10
