What to do on Spring Break when you have no plans

March 8, 2019 My Adventures, School

The time has come upon us … it is almost Spring Break! Spring break, the official sign that we are half-way through the semester, is finally here and I am super ready for it. Many students have been planning their Spring Breaks for months. This year I’m heading to Iceland, but previous years in college, I just stayed home with my fam and chilled.

Although traveling is super fun, the reality is that it can be exhausting and expensive. So if you’re staying in for Spring Break this year, here are some ideas to make sure it is the best one yet. Who says you have to travel 500 miles to have a well-spent Spring Break anyway?!

Devote the Week to Self-Care

If leading up to Spring Break has been quite overwhelming, try using the week of Spring Break to really tend to your own health! Sometimes being with other friends can actually be hard work and add even more stress to your plate, especially if you are trying to plan a last minute trip. Instead, throw that FOMO (fear of missing out) out the window about missing beach pictures and take a rain check on everything that may causes you the slightest bit of stress. Here are some ideas:

  • Take a Yoga Class
  • Have a Movie Day
  • Take Yourself on a Date
  • Book a Massage or Facial
  • Volunteer
  • Go for a Run
  • Go to a Museum
  • Journal
  • Challenge Yourself to a DIY Project
  • Cook or Bake
  • Explore your hometown
  • Give yourself a DIY Mani/Pedi
  • Get an actual Mani/Pedi

Make-up or Catch Up on School Work

If you are kind of behind on school work or wanting to get ahead, pick a time frame each day that consists of a couple of hours to devote to going to your favorite study space and doing work. If you have to, use this times to get back on track if you have noticed that you were dropping the ball. Don’t beat yourself up, just use this week to get ahead and motivate yourself to finish the semester with flying colors!

Plan for Summer Internships and Travels

Did you want to intern this summer but just haven’t had the time to fill out applications? Use Spring Break as a time to start filling out those applications! Spring Break is the perfect time to focus on the summer activities you were thinking about in organic chemistry lecture. Start thinking about how you want to spend your summer and start taking actions to make it happen. Either start saving money or getting those passports in so you can start having the summer of a lifetime!

Plan and Organize Your Extra Curriculares

If you are in charge of any clubs try using Spring Break to organize your events. When you hyper-organize your extra curricular activities, it becomes a lot easier to focus on your school work. Distractions come in many shapes and sizes and sometimes clubs and campus organizations can be some of them. Be smart with your time and dedicate a day out of your break to organizing and planning your extra curricular activities.

Challenge Yourself

Whether it be by working out everyday, or taking yourself out on an adventure, get out of your comfort zone this Spring Break by creating a challenge (or two) for yourself! Nothing is more satisfying to me then when I set reachable goals for myself and actually commit to them.

Get closer to God

I had to save the best for last. Spring Break can be one of the best times to get back on track with your faith. Trust me, I get it. Sometimes it’s easy to veer off track with God when you think you’re “too busy” for him. Well, Spring Break has none of those excuses in the way that we like to make up in our heads. Start a new devotional or choose a particular time in the day to have alone time with God by praying. Allow him to restore your tired heart and remind you that He is always with you.

There are TONS of things to do this Spring Break rather than go to the beach. Always remember that life isn’t always about the Instagram likes. Do what makes you happy and what brings you joy. Many blessings to ya!
