When Life Knocks You Down, Try, Try Again

August 7, 2016 Everyday Life, Lessons Learned

I had a discussion with my mom recently. I asked her, ” Mom, what do you like the most about me?” I thought she would say something about my brown skin or curly hair but instead, she said, “Theresa, I love that no matter what, you always try.”

Hearing those words come from my mother made my heart swell with happiness. I felt like she was genuinely proud that I was always wiling to try new things regardless of the outcome. Now it is true, I do find myself trying new sports, styles, and even hobbies. However, after thinking about it, I realized that even though I do try a lot of things, I don’t always “succeed” in them. In fact, most of the time I didn’t come home from gymnastics competitions with the gold medal nor did I get crowned Miss North Carolina’s Outstanding Teen. I didn’t graduate valedictorian of my high school class nor did I get into my dream ivy league college. But, with each of these experiences came important lessons and new opportunities. It is true what they say, when one door closes another one opens.

Whenever I try, I never fail. I know that now. I may not reach my intended goal but I never fail because at the end of the day, my passions and perseverance pays off. I have already seen it happen in my life. I remember when nobody use to read my blog and now I have sooooooo many people messaging me and following me on social media just to support this project of mine. People now want to be part of this growing community of inspired and empowered individuals. So when you think that you have failed because you didn’t win a crown, medal, or championship ring, try not to wallow away in sadness and anger. Something bigger and better is coming. Take everything you can from that past experience and use it as a motivating force in your life. When life knocks you down, get back up and try again because no matter what, you are blessed, brilliant, and beautiful.

I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

-Philippians 4:12-13

Hey y'all! My name is Theresa Ann and welcome to my blog! I studied writing at the University of Pittsburgh and earned my Masters of Science in Medical Physiology at Case Western Reserve University! The inspiration behind this blog is Proverbs 31:25-26. "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness." Thank you for joining me on this journey of faith, life, and my road to medicine.
